The year-round sunshine, incredible beaches, friendly people and laid-back lifestyle supported by excellent infrastructure are just a few reasons to buy property in Barbados at any time.

However, 2022 is arguably a better time than ever to make the leap to purchase property on the island, as the quality of available properties has never been better.

Indeed, there are many reasons to consider snapping up a forever home in Barbados right now. Excellent reasons to buy property in Barbados in 2022 include:

  • The ease in COVID-19 restrictions as we grow more accustomed to life as it is now;
  • The country’s stability both socially and politically;
  • The heartening fact that this government is more welcoming than ever to international visitors and foreign direct investment; and
  • There is plenty of choice with new and established communities offering a variety of exciting villas, apartments, townhouses and different ownership options.

Ease in COVID-19 Restrictions

The year 2020 was marked by restrictions world-over, many of which continued into 2021.

However, in 2022 it is believed the end is on the horizon. COVID-19 measures have begun to ease, and we have all learnt to live with a new normal. World over, many governments have started to trust the populations to take their own precautions within reason.

This has primarily meant a gradual return to normalcy in Barbados, with curfews being reduced to shorter early morning timeframes in late 2021 and the resumption of indoor dining at restaurants in early 2022.

In addition, the island has removed the arrival test with its requirement to quarantine until the result is determined, instead simply maintaining its pre-arrival test requirement. You can find more about entry protocols here.

This ease in restrictions overall provides additional comfort for both locals and visitors alike, as it allows us all to experience the best the island has to offer with minimum limitations or concerns.

Political Stability

Barbados is known for its easy living and enviable lifestyle, but many may not recognize that it is supported – and indeed facilitated – by a very stable government.

The country is one of the safer Caribbean destinations, with visitors free to explore, take island tours and navigate each parish freely without fear.

Even better, the country has just concluded fair and free elections, which saw the incumbent government retain their victory for the second time in a landslide victory which saw them winning all 30 seats across the island.

This political stability is good for the economy as projects and programmes that have started within the last three years can continue, including the Welcome Stamp Programme, among others.

The steady hands that lead the island make purchasing property here even more reassuring as concerns like the political upheaval, warfare, or insurgence are not even thoughts that fret the minds of locals or wise persons who choose to live in such a paradise.

Astute buyers know that peace is invaluable and that individuals who buy property in Barbados can make a sound investment without fear.

Barbados encourages foreign direct investments

There’s never been a better time for the international buyer to purchase property in Barbados.

With more recent programmes such as the Welcome Stamp Programme, the country is encouraging foreign direct and indirect investment into the island in ever-creative ways. This programme, for example, allows non-nationals to live and work in Barbados for up to one year – a more extended period than ever before and without paying Barbados taxes.

Hearteningly, included in the 2022 manifesto of the victorious Barbados Labour Party was a promise to encourage international business by “the rolling out of the digital strategy of the Corporate Affairs Office”. This is aimed at significantly decreasing the wait time taken to register a new business on the island.

This means that any remaining barriers in the form of red tape to new businesses are steadily decreasing by embracing technology. This will lead to more outstanding international business, trade and foreign investment in the country.
