A true island paradise, Barbados is ringed by golden sandy beaches, coconut trees and glimmering aqua waters. Blessed with the exciting duality of the charismatic Atlantic Ocean on one side and the calm, serene Caribbean Sea on the other side of the island, Barbados beaches have something to offer everyone.

Whether you are a daring surfer, keen on snorkelling, want to swim with turtles or are simply interested in soaking up the sun on the sand, Barbados has a beach for you.

East Coast – For the daring

The East Coast of Barbados is known for its striking landscapes: the craggy cliff face of Chalky Mount, the undulating hills of The Sleeping Giant, scenic Cherry Tree Hill and more.

But perhaps it is best known for its picturesque beaches with exciting surf, with places like Surf bowl long known as a local hotspot for catching the best waves. The most popular beaches on this coast are Bathsheba and Cattlewash and are enjoyed by surfers and regular sea bathers alike.

There are many small natural pools perfect for bathing for families to enjoy at Cattlewash. At the same time, Bathsheba is a popular picnic spot for locals who are happy to stay onshore and watch the daring surfers ride huge waves to their heart’s content.

Each Beach House has expansive open-plan living spaces that seamlessly blend modern, environmentally friendly architectural design with the casual and relaxed comfort of a traditional Barbados East Coast beach house.

South East Coast – For the adventuring

The Southeast coast is characterized by its dramatic sea cliffs, rugged coastline and little-known beaches and coves, perfect for exploring.

Hidden bays on the southeast coast include Ginger Bay, which is on the other side of the world-famous Crane Beach, and Shark Hole, a stunning cove bracketed by picturesque cliffs, creating a small bay just big enough for a dip and stunning photography.

Many smaller beaches not many people know of, such as Peat Bay, Kitridge Bay, Harrismith and more, are ideal for exploring on a cliffside hike in the early morning.

Further along the southeast coast is Silver Sands beach, perfect for the truly adventurous type. If you’re more daring than the average surfer, you can elevate to some other surfing activities as kiteboarding is taught and can be enjoyed from surf schools at this beach.

South Coast – For watersports

The perfect beach in Barbados for watersports such as snorkelling in Barbados is arguably Carlisle Bay.

This bay is large and is home to at least two large sunken wrecks, which are just waiting for snorkelers to discover. In addition, passing catamaran cruises often feed sea turtles in the area, meaning that you are likely to catch sight of a few during your snorkelling dive at the beach.

Another beach on the South Coast of Barbados which is excellent for watersports is Brandon’s beach, as the Rascals Water Park recently opened there and is already a delight for the whole family to enjoy. Even better, you can cool off afterwards with a beverage from the waterpark’s bar right on the beach.

And in case you are on a cruise with time is in short supply and looking for Barbados beaches near the seaport, Brandon’s Beach and Carlisle Bay should be your top choices, as each is on either side of the cruise port.

Which beach to choose?

Too many Barbados beaches, and not sure which one to try? Luckily there’s a Barbados beach webcam where you can get a good preview of what the beach looks like live and direct on that day, which comes in handy if there’s seaweed that washed in recently or if it’s a hectic day at your preferred beach escape.

Best of all, you may not have to choose any beach at all because all of Barbados’ beaches are free and open to the public – so the choice will always be yours.
